Silent discussion in writing
Discussion without words: On large posters, participants make arguments, comments and connections exclusively in writing. Quiet students can take part too, and everything is documented.
How the method works
- 1
Write provocative statements or prompts on posters and distribute them around the room.
- 2
Agree on the rules: write only, no speaking; contributions can be commented on and connected.
- 3
Writing phase: Everyone moves around freely, makes written arguments, and draws connecting lines.
- 4
Reading phase: Review the posters; mark where the discussion is most interesting.
- 5
Oral debrief based on the most substantial discussion threads.
Material
- Prompt posters
- Pens
You can find free, ready-made worksheets for the work phase in the TeachPie Marketplace , sorted by subject and grade, in three levels.
Common pitfalls in practice
- Make written follow-up rules visible
Variants
- Digitally, as a shared whiteboard with comment threads.
- Second round after input: comment on the same posters again with your new knowledge.
