Teaching toolkit
Jigsaw activity
Each person becomes an expert on one subtopic and teaches it to their home group. Knowledge is built through shared contributions, and everyone takes real responsibility for the others’ learning.
How the method works
- 1
Form home groups and assign subtopics (one topic per member).
- 2
Expert groups: Everyone works together on the same topic using materials and guiding questions.
- 3
Plan your presentation: How can I explain my topic clearly in 3 to 5 minutes?
- 4
Back in the home group: The experts take turns teaching one another.
- 5
Wrap-up: A shared task that can only be solved by combining all the subtopics.
Material
- Expert texts
- Assignments
- Backup template
You can find free, ready-made worksheets for the work phase in the TeachPie Marketplace , sorted by subject and grade, in three levels.
Common pitfalls in practice
- Subtopics must be equally important and able to be worked on independently
Variants
- With a quiz wrap-up: Each expert group creates two test questions for everyone.
- Half puzzle: Just two subtopics, as an introduction to the method for younger classes.
