Learning stations

Learners work independently at stations with different tasks, materials and approaches. Required and optional stations cater to different paces and interests.

How the method works

  1. 1

Set up stations with clear tasks, materials, and self-checks (mark required/optional).

  2. 2

Hand out the station task sheets and agree on how to organize the activity (any order, fixed time frame).

  3. 3

Work phase: learners choose stations and record their work on the activity sheet; the teacher provides focused support.

  4. 4

Self-check at solution stations; collect open questions on the parking lot poster.

  5. 5

Review: look back at the progress tracker and clarify the parking lot questions.

Material

  • Station Cards
  • Hint cards
  • Self-assessment

You can find free, ready-made worksheets for the work phase in the TeachPie Marketplace , sorted by subject and grade, in three levels.

Common pitfalls in practice

  • Clearly mark required and optional stations, as well as routes

Variants

  • Level-based stations: the same content in basic and expert versions.
  • Learning stations as an open format: materials are laid out, and the order and choice are entirely flexible.
