Gallery of solution methods
Different approaches to the same task are displayed side by side, so the class compares strategies rather than just results. Ideal for making multiple approaches and a positive error culture visible.
How the method works
- 1
Groups solve the same task and clearly document their approach on a poster or slide.
- 2
Display all paths; take a short gallery walk with a comparison task (What’s the same, what’s different?).
- 3
Whole-class discussion: compare approaches. Which is elegant, which is robust, and where do they share the same core?
- 4
Consolidation: Name strategies and record them in your notebook with examples.
Material
- Solution posters
- Comparison task
You can find free, ready-made worksheets for the work phase in the TeachPie Marketplace , sorted by subject and grade, in three levels.
Common pitfalls in practice
- Compare thought processes, not just results
Variants
- Error gallery: Include an intentionally incorrect solution, and have the class find and explain the mistake.
- Silent gallery: comments are written on sticky notes only, followed by a discussion.
In TeachPie, the planning AI suggests Gallery of solution methods automatically when it fits the phase, timing, and class, including ready-to-use materials.
